The CPN Revolutionary Maoist has claimed that there is no significance of the local level elections scheduled for May 14.The CPN Revolutionary Maoist has claimed that there is no significance of the local level elections scheduled for May 14.
The party drew up the conclusion citing several reasons—growing differences among the parties, the “constitution requirement of holding provincial polls before local elections”, and “violation of the spirit of special, protected and autonomous areas and identity-based federalism”.
Party Chairman Mohan Baidya said in a statement on Sunday that the polls were not possible at a time when the Saptari incident in which five protesters were killed in police firing has escalated tensions. He added that the killing by the Indian border security force of a Kanchanpur local on the Nepali territory had further exacerbated the situation.
If the government tried to hold the elections forcibly, that would create more conflict in the country, he warned.
The party has decided to demonstrate across the country on March 18 against “Indian domination” and the killing of youths in Saptari.
