Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Home Affairs Bimalendra Nidhi said on Wednesday that India must express regret at the killing of Gobinda Gautam by India’s Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) in Kanchanpur district on March 9.

During his meeting with India’s National Security Adviser Ajit Doval, DPM Nidhi informed the top Indian official that the ballistics indicated that the bullet that killed Gautam was fired by Indian security forces and called on the Indian side to express regret at the incident. 

“I also requested him to complete the investigation  into the border firing at the earliest and bring the guilty to book,” Nidhi told the Post after his meeting with Doval. 

Nidhi also informed the Indian official that the government of Nepal had already sent forensic, post-mortem and ballistics reports to India through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. 

Nidhi and Doval also discussed ways to manage border more effectively and stop such incidents from taking place in future. 

“We talked about expediting dialogues between technical teams of the two countries to resolve border issues,” Nidhi said.

Nidhi, who arrived in New Delhi to participate in a conference organised by the India Foundation, is scheduled to meet Indian Minister for External Affairs Sushma Swaraj and Home Minister Rajnath Singh on Thursday. A meeting with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi is yet to be fixed.
