Mira enthralls Bhojpur locals

Mar 19, 2017-A road show by Kimff, which has already travelled to 48 districts, concluded its stint in Bhojpur on Saturday. Organised by the Himalayan Association, the Ghumti Kimff, screened more than a dozen films, including Mira, Song for Barpak, Barakhai Lauro and Chandra. 

The crowd-pleaser during the string of shows was A Song for Barpak, directed by Pradip Pokharel, which documents the earthquakes and their impacts on the people of Barpak. 

Equally loved among the audiences was the movie Mira, which tells the story of the making of Mira Rai, ultra-marathon runner bagged the National Geographic People’s Choice Adventurer of the Year 2017. The film marked a homecoming for Bhojpur-born Mira, and was welcomed with resounding rounds of plaudits. 

The documentary traces Mira’s journey from her childhood in a small village in Bhojpur to her worldwide recognition. The 42-min long film was directed by Loyeda Belchar. 

Speaking to the Post, Action Rai, of the Nepal Journalist Association, which co-ordinated the screening, said, “Mira was the main attraction for this fest. As Mira is the daughter of this district, people were delighted to see her story on screen.” He added, “This whole event was a great opportunity for all the locals as they got to watch all these good movies at once and that too in a very reasonable prices.”

Similarly, member of Himalayan Association, Manish Shrestha, said, “Movies provide knowledge about culture, society, arts and literature, so we are hoping that the screening of these movies will help create a better society.” He added, “Kimff has been organising film fests in Kathmandu but we wanted to take the show beyond the Valley, which is the main motive of these road shows.”
