Samyukta Loktantrik Madhesi Morcha cadres have padlocked all of the recently revamped municipal and village council offices in Saptari on Sunday.
With the action of Morcha cadres all services provided by the municipal and village councils across the district including preparations for the local level election have been affected.
Rastriya Madhes Samajwadi Party central secretary Gajendra Mandal said that Morcha cadres have padlocked Kanchanrup, Dakneshwori, Bodebarsain, Khadak, Shambhunath, Surung and Hanuman Nagar Kankalini municipalities in the district. Likewise, they have also padlocked Krishnasabaran, Chinnamasta, Mahadeva, Saptakoshi, Tirahut, Tilathi Koiladi, Rupani, Belhi Chapena and Bishnupur village councils.
Morcha cadres also burnt a board of Hanuman Nagar Kankalini Municipal Office, Mandal informed.
According to Sanghiya Samajwadi Forum Nepal’s Tarai Madhes state chief secretary Sambhu Jha, the Morcha cadres were fury over not amending the constitution as per their aspirations, demarcation of local entities in an unscientific manner, control of local entities by central government instead of state government and forcefully trying to conduct local level elections before holding the federal and state elections.
The Morcha cadres, earlier on Thursday, had omitted a board sign of Nepal Sarkar (Government of Nepal) Saptari District Coordination Committee replacing it with Madhes Prades Sarkar (government) District Development Committee.
Meanwhile, a meeting to look-over the election centres in the district called for today has been postponed on behest of the Morcha leaders saying that representatives from Nepali Congress and CPN-UML remained absent in the meeting, informed Chief District Officer Krishna Bahadur Katuwal.
On the issue of election preparations, CDO Katuwal said, “The situation has become challenging. However, we will try to resolve the differences through parleys at the local level.”
