A meeting of the party headquarters on Wednesday to discuss party Chairman and Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal’s China visit made the decision to this effect.
PM Dahal briefed the meeting that the issues of provincial boundaries could not be taken through Parliament because of UML’s stance and the government had been preparing to move ahead with the amendment proposal without provincial boundaries.
According to party Spokesperson Pampha Bhusal, the party has decided to put the issues of demarcation on hold as it has not been able to garner two-thirds majority in the House.
The government would go with the suggestions of the taskforce regarding the formation of a commission to finalise the issue of demarcation. Besides, the party would also lobby for increasing the number of local units as demanded by the Morcha.
Around a month after the government declared the date of local polls, the meeting of the ruling party has decided to deploy all its rank and file in the local elections.
During the meeting, PM Dahal also briefed about his China visit and developments on dialogue with Madhesi Morcha leaders.
PM’s visit will focus on furthering ties with China and developing a basis for newer agreements, according to the PM’s Secretariat .
Wednesday’s meeting also decided to send the draft of the commitment paper down to the lower committee for suggestions before finalising it in mid-April.
