According to police, the fire that broke from Shrestha Book Store destroyed Saga Travels and Tours and other business outlets based in the four-storey commercial building.
Police said the fire was sparked by short circuit from an inverter of the bookstore. All the books of the store have been burned out, police said.
It took over one hour for two fire engines and some water tankers to douse the fire that broke at around 4 pm in the afternoon.
DSP Govinda Puri, chief of Metropolitan Police Circle, Maharajgunj said the fire also destroyed furniture and computers of the Saga Travel Tours. "Some other business outlets also sustained partial damages," said DSP Puri. "Initial estimation show a loss of property over Rs100 million."
