Shah was killed when India’s paramilitary force inspector Hitendra Singh opened fire after a brawl between Nepali locals and Indian SSB.
The Indian SSB team in civvies had crossed over to Nepali territory alleging that some smugglers of edible oil and other domestic stuff had escaped from the bordering Indian Market.
Saying that the then government could not provide compensation to Sah’s family for six long years due to various reasons despite recommendation from the local administration, Minister Nidhi said the government has provided relief to the affected family—albeit late.
Minister Nidhi directed Eastern Regional Police Chief DIG Ramesh Bhattarai and Chief District Officer of Morang Yagya Raj Koirala to appoint Basudev’s two sons Gautam and Jayakant as temporary police for the upcoming local level elections.
Sah is survived by his wife and three sons. His second son is a migrant worker based in Saudi Arabia.
