The Ministry is planning to table the proposal to grant the project to construct the 76-km expressway linking Kathmandu with Nijgadh to Nepal Army in a couple of days. With the cabinet approval, the road project that has been in limbo for the past one-decade will be assigned to the Nepal Army.
The Ministry had communicated with Nepal Army via Defense Ministry two days ago enquiring whether the Nepal Army was willing to undertake the project responsibility or not. The Army Headquarters had given a positive response regarding the construction of the expressway.
A meeting of top army officials including Nepal Army Chief Rajendra Chhetri convened at Nepal Army Headquarters in Kathmandu concluded that if the government handed over the Fast Track project, it would not back down under any circumstance.
Following the NA’s positive nod, the Ministry is planning to vest the NA with the responsibility after the cabinet approval.
On December 22 last year, the Nepal government had scrapped all the agreements made with an Indian firm to build the Fast Track road, clearing legal hurdles to allow the government to build the expressway with its own resources.
