Locals at Sauraha on Sunday organised a ‘condolence rally’ as a part of symbolic protest against the poaching of a rare one-horned rhino at Belhatta Hariyali Community Forest on April 7.

The rally was organised jointly by various 45 organisations on the third day of ongoing 22nd Wildlife Week.

Students, conservationists, media persons, hotel entrepreneurs, security personnel among others participated in the symbolic protest.

The rally began from Agantuk Chowk and moved towards Hatti Chowk ending in a corner meet at Gaida Chowk.

Addressing the meet, conservationists urged the authorities to identify and apprehend the poachers as soon as possible and take action against them.

There are 605 one horned Rhinoceros at the Chitwan National Park. The killing of the rhino 26 days prior to the nation celebrating zero rhino poaching year for the third consecutive year has posed a security challenge for the authorities.
