The prime minister called off the Cabinet meeting expected to take decision regarding the agreements reached on Saturday with the Sanghiya Gathabandan that include the newly formed Rastriya Janata Party. The Cabinet meeting was summoned for 11 am today.
PM Dahal and CPN-UML Chairman KP Oli has been holding discussion, Dahal’s aide Prakash Dahal informed. The discussions are revolving around holding the local level polls in two phases and revise the constitution amendment proposal to address the demands of Madhesi parties.
The ruling parties and Sanghiya Gathabandhan on Saturday agreed to hold the local level elections in two phases and endorse a revised constitutional amendment bill through fast-track.
The Sanghiya Gathabandhan is preparing to take part in the local level elections by withdrawing their agitation programmes if the government implemented Saturday’s deal.
According to PM’s Secretariat, the Cabinet meeting will be convened today to address the demands of Madhes-based parties. Earlier, the government had announced May 14 as the date for local level elections. One of the two-phase elections will be held on May 14 as scheduled earlier.
