Speaking at the Legislature-Parliament meeting on Monday, the former Prime Minister said that his party was not in support of holding polls in two-phase.
The government on Sunday had announced to hold the local level elections in two-phase (May 14 and June 14) and revise the new constitution amendment bill, which the government says will bring the agitating Madhes-based and Janajati parties on board the local level elections.
The UML Chair said that the constitution could not be amended under any circumstances.
He further said that the budget should be unveiled on the announced date.
Moreover, he said that all the political issues should be resolved through discussions and all political parties should move ahead with consensus.
Saying some forces have been criticising the UML for dominating the Tarai region, he said that the UML is the only party in Nepal that was against social discrimination and advocates for equality.
The UML government in the past had allocated significant amount of budget for the Tarai region for its development, leader Oli said.
Chairman Oli further said that his party is in favour of holding the local polls so as to end the transition period. “UML wants elections to end the transition period,” he said.
