The exhibit features a total of 200 photos taken by Dr David Templeman, an Australian Professor from Monash University, during his stay in Nepal from 1967 to 1969.
Templeman, who first visited Nepal in 1967 for a retreat, travelled to various parts of the country and took more than 2000 pictures, their themes ranging from panaroma to lifestyle and culture of Nepal.
In his artist’s statement, Templeman has said, “I was first in Nepal, in 1967, a bus journey from England and I fell in love it with at first sight.” Templeman adds, “I was not and am not a photographer, but it seemed to me that the country took its own photographs. I claim no part of them except clicking the button... Nepal did the rest.”
Speaking to the Post, Faija Parween of Today’s Telegram recalls that the exhibition was conceived after the organisers met Templeman about a year ago, and came across his rich compilation. “The pictures not just portrayed the natural beauty of Nepal but also of the people, lifestyle and culture of time. We approached him to organise the exhibit so that people can go back in time and see what Nepal looked like 50 years ago,” Parween said. She added, “The 50 percent of the total fund collected from the exhibit will be donated as corporate social responsibility to enterprising communities in and out of the Valley. We ourselves are a start-up, but we want to help others establish their own business.”
Today’s Telegram also parallelly launched its new store at Jhamshikel. The store features products such as leather bags, sleeve bags, eco-friendly yoga mats, and To Te lap tables among others.
The exhibit will be on till May 2, every day from 11 am to 8 pm, next to Tasneem’s King Kitchen in Pulchowk.
