During a meeting with the leaders of the Rastriya Janata Party Nepal (RJPN) and opposition parties held on Thursday, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Federal Affairs and Local Development Kamal Thapa on behalf of the government put forward a new proposal regarding increasing the number of local units.
Minister Thapa reminded the leaders about the government’s decision to resolve the problems of Province No 2 after the Local Level Restructuring Commission (LLRC) headed by Balananda Paudel could not work effectively.
“We have decided to increase the local units on the basis of the LLRC’s recommendation,” Minister Thapa said, adding, “He urged the leaders of Rastriya Janata Party to rest assured.”
“The government received complaints for excluding the main opposition party while making such a crucial decision. Now, we will make a joint decision regarding the increment of local units,” said Minister Thapa, who is also the Chairman of Rastriya Prajatantra Party."
CPN-UML Chief Whip Bhanubhakta Dhakal and leader Agni Prasad Kharel were present in the meeting.
Thapa said the government’s attention has been drawn towards converting Biratnagar and Birgunj Sub-Metropolitan Cities into Metropolitan Cities.
RJPN leaders had reached Baluwatar this morning expressing their dissatisfaction over the agreement reached between the ruling and opposition parties to not increase local units in the 11 districts instantly.
