Ruling parties acted under ‘foreign pressure’

“India is plotting against the implementation of the constitution, thereby subverting it, by using the ruling CPN (Maoist Centre), Nepali Congress and Madhes-based parties,” Rawal told a press meet on Wednesday. “At a time when there is an environment conducive to the elections, the ruling parties, under pressure from India, have brought the constitution amendment proposal that could potentially destroy the constitution,” he added.
Rawal claimed that the ruling parties are working to serve the interests of the foreign power that tried to thwart the constitution by imposing a blockade soon after its promulgation.
Taking a dig at the government for increasing the number of local units, the UML leader alleged the ruling parties of making a grave anti-national move by curtailing the rights of the citizens guaranteed by the constitution. “Increasing local units citing population density and granting of the citizenship would put the Nepali people in minority,” he said. Rawal said that tabling of the amendment bill after completion of all preparations is a ploy to halt the local level polls.
