Clean-up campaign continues in Valley’s rivers, Ring Road areas

More than 50 metric tonnes of wastes were collected in a clean-up campaign held along the Ring Road and the Kathmandu Valley’s major rivers on Saturday.
The clean-up event witnessed the participation of over 2,250 people, including the officials from the Kathmandu Metropolitan City and the High-Powered Committee for Integrated Development of the Bagmati Civilisation, security personnel, general citizens and the representatives of various government and private organisations.
As part of the 207th week of the Bagmati Clean-up Mega Campaign, nearly 12 metric tonnes of wastes were collected from the Thapathali are alone, said Umesh Bohara, one of the campaign members. The campaign started after former secretary Dr Krishna Chandra Poudel administered oath to the participants. Two metric tonnes of wastes were collected from the area near the Gothatar bridge, where the campaign has reached 168th week.
The 166th week of the clean-up drive was also conducted between Ratopul to Setopul area along the Rudramati river. Around 500 people, including the Nepal Army personnel, participated in the clean-up event of the Bishnumati river area in Tarakeshwor Municipality. Nearly 12 metric tonnes of wastes were collected in what was the 115th week of Bishnumati.
Similarly, the Ring Road-centric clean-up drive, which entered its third week on Saturday, nearly 22 metric tonnes of wastes were collected from the Basundhara area.
