The ruling CPN (Maoist Centre), Nepali Congress, main opposition CPN-UML have agreed to move ahead the constitution amendment process at the legislature parliament on May.

In the meeting held at Prime Minister’s residence in Baluwatar on Tuesday morning, the big three parties and leaders from Sanghiya Gathabandhan agreed to move forward the amendment proposal in the parliament.

Meanwhile, Gathabandhan leaders expressed their dissatisfaction over constitution amendment process being put in the back burner saying that the Prime Minister failed to deliver on the agreement forged with the Madhes-based parties of amending the constitution through fast-track prior to local level polls.

The meeting was initially scheduled to be held with Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal only. However, leaders from NC and the UML were also summoned for the meet.

During the meeting, RJPN leaders warned of boycotting the second phase of the local polls and carrying programmes of protest if the amendment process fails to gain momentum.

The RJPN, that decided to abstain from the first phase of the local polls, have urged the three big parties to amend the constitution before the second phase elections.

Meanwhile, the main opposition UML is steadfast on its decision against the constitution amendment.

The RJPN leaders informed that a meeting of Sanghiya Gathabandhan will commence later in the afternoon to decide on the future strategy of the alliance.
