A woman candidate was assaulted by her husband in Kaski after she refused to withdraw her candidacy for the local level elections on Wednesday.
Padma Khadka Gurung, a ward member candidate from the CPN (Maoist Centre) in Rupa Village Council Ward-5, has been beaten by her husband Yam Bahadur Gurung last night for refusing to withdraw her candidacy.
Critically injured, Padma is undergoing treatment at the Phewa City Hospital in Pokhara.
Yam Bahadur had attacked Padma with a baton on her head and hands.
Padma’s elder brother-in-law Tek Bahadur Gurung is Ward Chairman candidate from the CPN-UML.
Padma said that she was beaten up under the direction of her brother-in-law.
“My husband used to warn me to withdraw my election candidacy,” Padma said.
