NUWAKOT: An elected ward member of Likhu Village Council-1 died of heart attack on Saturday. Thakur Prasad Lamichhane, 49, died of cardiac arrest, police said. Lamichhane collapsed in his residence and breathed his last while being rushed to hospital. He was elected ward member from the CPN-UML in Likhu Ward 1.
Woman elected Rapti mayor
BHARATPUR: Prabha Baral of the CPN-UML has been elected the mayor of Rapti Municipality in Chitwan district. Baral garnered 11,613 votes against 7,292 votes received by her closest rival Kiranbhusan Oli of the Nepali Congress. Iman Singh Lama, also from the UML, was elected the deputy mayor of the municipality with 11,882 votes, defeating NC candidate Anita Mainali. There were 29,998 voters in the municipality.
‘Factional politics defeats NC in Bidur’
NUWAKOT: The district leaders of Nepali Congress blamed “factional politics” for their defeats in Bidur Municipality. The NC lost the elections in wards 1, 4, 5, 6, 9, 11 and 12 under the municipality. At poll review meeting on Saturday, the NC leaders blamed the party supporters of casting votes for the UML in exchange for money. Rajendra Aryal, an NC candidate from Ward 5 suggested the party take action against the supporters who betrayed them. Jagadishwor Narsingh KC said he faced criticism from the time of distributing tickets. “I will take action against any NC supporters found guilty,” he said. (PR)
