Results satisfactory: Maoist Centre

The Maoist Centre has won 46 of the total 283 local federal units so far while its candidates lost, the party claimed, with less than 500 votes in some 50 local units.
During a meeting of the party headquarters at Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal’s official residence in Baluwatar on Monday, the party concluded that the results matched its expectations despite the PM’s party being in an organisational mess.
According to Mani Thapa, the leaders reviewed the party’s mistakes while forging electoral alliances and selecting candidates. A weak party organisation, dearth of resources and inadequate publicity were cited as other impediments.
Despite all odds, securing victory in 46 local units was satisfactory, the party concluded. The Maoists have decided to correct the mistakes of the first-phase polls during the second-round election.
“Results of the first-phase polls proved that the Maoist Centre is not weak in terms of popular choice,” party Spokesperson Pampha Bhusal quoted Chairman Dahal as saying.
PM Dahal remarked that holding the local polls for decentralising the powers of Singha Durbar to the grassroots was a victory for the Maoist Centre.
Thapa added that achievements of the Dahal-led government could not reach all city voters due to “weak publicity”.
