Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba has thanked outgoing Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal for resigning from his post to make way for the change in government leadership as part of the deal reached between NC and CPN (Maoist Centre). He assured that the process to change the government wouldn’t affect the second phase of local polls slated for June 14.

In a statement issued after Dahal’s resignation on Wednesday, the NC president highly praised the historic achievements of holding the first phase of long overdue local elections in a peaceful and impartial manner. “The process to amend the constitution has moved ahead within the 10-month of the formation of the government,” said Deuba in his statement, “Within this timeframe, the economic growth has increased significantly owing to the growing economic activities as a result of peace and stability in the nation.” 

He noted that the current government was formed based on a political consensus between Nepali Congress and CPN (Maoist Centre) mainly to extend the acceptance of the new constitution, hold the three-tier elections, and take the country towards the path of peace, stability and economic prosperity.

Expressing his confidence that the cooperation based on the agreement between the NC and Maoist centre would continue in the future, Deuba said his party would always remain committed to implement the pact reached with all the political parties.
