50 years of Nepal-Germany friendship
The fiftieth anniversary of the establishment of German-Nepal Friendship Association (GNFA) was marked with various cultural programmes in Cologne in Germany earlier this week.The fiftieth anniversary of the establishment of German-Nepal Friendship Association (GNFA) was marked with various cultural programmes in Cologne in Germany earlier this week.
The event, themed Building Bridges, saw musical concerts, art and book exhibits, and cultural dance performances.
The event was inaugurated by newly-appointed Ambassador of Nepal to Germany, Ramesh Prasad Khanal. Speaking at the event, Khanal said, “For me it is an honour to be part of this event and I am looking forward to generate even more synergies between Nepal and Germany with all of you in the future.”
The three-day fest kicked off with a performance by UNICEF Ambassador and singer Ani Choying Drolma. Drolma’s concert, titled Gratitude, saw renditions of several Nepali songs, such as Om Mani Padme Hum and Phoolko Aankhama, and a few German songs. Drolma was accompanied on stage by Raman Maharjan, on the flute, Gopal Rasaili, on guitars, and composer Nhyoo Bajhracharya.
The event also featured several presentations on Nepali politics, economics, education and culture. Among others, Jiba Lamichhane presented an outlook on the investment opportunities in Nepal, while Prof Dr Axel Michaels presented a brief overview on Nepal’s history and its position in the world. Likewise, Dr Maheswar Rupakheti presented the findings of Sustainable Atmosphere for Kathmandu Valley project, a research pertaining to Kathmandu’s air pollution and other environmental hazards.
