RJPN unveils protest programmes; Gathabandhan meeting underway

A meeting of the RJPN held at Bijulibazaar in the Capital on Friday made the decision to this effect.
Following the meeting, the RJPN has made public its protest programmes to foil the second phase of local level elections slated for June 14.
As part of its protest programmes, the party has decided to organise torch rallies in districts headquarters of all the sub- metropolitan cities and municipalities on May 27.
It has decided to take out lathi rallies in the district headquarters, municipalities and village councils on May 28 and decided to form struggle committees in all the polling stations.
The party has also decided to hold an interaction with entrepreneurs, experts, journalists, youths and students among others on May 29. It has decided to light candles in the memory of martyrs on the occasion of Republic Day.
The Madhes-based party has decided to padlock and picket election offices of municipalities and village councils on May 30.
The newly formed party has also decided to organise torch rallies in all the district headquarters, municipalities and major haat bazaars on May 31.
The party has decided to enforce general strike in Madhes, Tharuwat and Limbuwan on June 1 and 2.
Meanwhile, leaders of Sanghiya Gathabandhan, an alliance of Madhes-centric parties which has been demanding amendment to the constitution prior to the second phase of local level elections slated for June 14, are holding a meeting to discuss the issue.
RJPN leader Kehsav Jha said that the Gathabandhan meeting will endorse the decision taken by the RJPN.
Following the Gathabandhan's meeting, the agitating Madhes-centric parties are planning to hold a press conference and announce protest programmes later today.
After the goverment failed to ensure passage of the constitution amendment bill, the RJPN has decided to launch fresh protest programmes at a time when the country is gearing up for the second phase of local polls.
The party has also said that the local entities formed in Madhes were not based on population.
RJPN has also expressed dissatisfaction over not getting an electoral symbol to take part in the local polls.
