As soon as the meeting began at 1 pm, lawmakers of the opposition parties including the UML stood up from their seats, forcing Speaker Onsari Gharti to halt the business.
Owing to the protest of opposition party, Parliament was forced to postpone the meeting without entering into the agenda.
The UML has been demanding the government to withdraw its decision to increase the number of local federal units in a dozen Tarai districts and withdraw impeachment motion filed against Chief Justice Sushila Karki.
The UML, however, had allowed the House to present the government’s policy and programmes for the fiscal year 2017/18 on Thursday.
Earlier on Tuesday, the main opposition had warned of obstructing the Parliament proceedings unless the government took back its recent decision to increase the number of local levels in Tarai districts.
The opposition party’s threat had also affected outgoing Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal’s address to the nation.
He, later, addressed the nation from his office in Singha Dubar on Wednesday and tendered his resignation.
The opposition parties’ protest has also halted pre-budget discussions for the fiscal year 2017/18.
The next meeting has been scheduled for 4 pm today.
