Around 12 metric ton of solid waste was collected from the Bagmati river near a newly built bridge of Tripureshwor as the Bagmati Clean-up Mega Campaign entered its 211th week on Saturday.
Over 500 people from different walks of life participated in the clean-up campaign.
“I am really excited,” said Jyoti Kumar Shrestha, the newly appointed secretary of the High Powered Committee for Integrated Development of the Bagmati Civilisation (HPCIDBC), who was participating in the clean-up campaign for the first time. Shrestha succeeded Rajesh Prakash Singh at the HPCIDBC last week.
Representatives of the Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) and Lalitpur Metropolitan City; Kishore Thapa; mayoral candidate for KMC from Sajha Party; actors and social workers Sitaram Kattel and Kunjana Ghimire who are better known as Dhurmus Suntali; singer Komal Oli, who is also a member of the Rastriya Prajatantra Party; personnel from Nepal Police, the Nepal Army and the Armed Police Force; and members of different organisations took part in the clean-up campaign.
A cycle rally from Tripureshwor to Pashupatinath has been scheduled for next week’s clean-up campaign to coincide with World Environment Day, according to organisers.
Likewise, one metric ton of garbage was collected from the Rudramati river as part of the Rudramati Clean-up Campaign which entered its 169th week on Saturday. Around 300 people participated in the clean-up drive. A door-to-door campaign to keep the city clean was also launched. Minister for Health Gagan Thapa also participated in the event.
Similarly, seven metric ton of waste was extracted from the Bishnumati river as part of the Bishnumati Clean-up Campaign that entered 142nd week on Saturday. More than 200 people participated.
Meanwhile, campaigners on Saturday collected 12 metric ton of garbage as part the Chakrapath Clean-up Campaign which entered its seventh week.
