Main opposition party CPN-UML has shunned an all-party meeting called by Nepali Congress in a bid to form a consensus government.

A letter had been sent to all the parties represented in the parliament by the Nepali Congress in a bid to form a consensus government under NC president Sher Bahadur Deuba.

The largest party in the parliament had called for the meet in response to President Bidya Devi Bhandari’s call to form a consensus government within one week following Prime Minister Dahal’s resignation from the top Executive post.

It is learnt that the formation of a consensus government is unlikely despite the meet that has been called as a formality.

If so, then as per the constitutional provision, the President would call for the formation of majority government.
