CPN (Maoist Centre) mayoral candidate from Bharatpur Metropolitan City Renu Dahal has filed an application at the Office of Chief Election Officers demanding re-polling at ward-19 of the municipality.CPN (Maoist Centre) mayoral candidate from Bharatpur Metropolitan City Renu Dahal has filed an application at the Office of Chief Election Officers demanding re-polling at ward-19 of the municipality. Two alleged cadres of her party tore down ballot papers during the counting of votes on Sunday night.
Dahal, who is a common candidate from Maoist Centre and the Nepali Congress (NC) sought re-election, at a time when the main opposition—CPN (UML) has been protesting at the parliament and the street demanding continuation of vote counting in Bharatpur Metropolitan City.
Likewise, NC candidate for deputy mayor at the metropolis Parbati Shah and the candidate for chairperson at the same ward Karna Bahadur Gurung have filed a separate joint application demanding re-poll.
Police said the Maoists representatives at the counting centre had torn the ballot papers. The UML has alleged that the action of the Maoist representatives was a conspiracy to force the EC to hold re-polling so that they could use all means to win the elections.
On Wednesday, the UML obstructed the parliament demanding continuation of counting and its party cadres have been staging sit-in at the vote counting centre. The party's district committee has announced shutdown of Chitwan demanding resumption of vote counting. When the counting was undergoing, UML Mayoral candidate Devi Gyawali was slightly ahead of Dahal.
