PM Deuba assumes office, first Cabinet meeting sets five priorities

Newly elected Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba has assumed office on Wednesday.

After assuming the office, PM Deuba held a Cabinet meeting at Singha Durbar in Kathmandu today.

While assuming his office at the Office of Prime Minister and Council of Ministers (OPMCM) at Singha Durbar today, newly elected Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba endorsed the establishment of the Secretariat within the OPMCM. 

Article 234 of the Constitution has guaranteed the formation of the Inter-State Council under the chair of the Prime Minister. 

On the occasion, Prime Minister Deuba put his signature on a proposal regarding the formulation of Good Conduct Policy of all public sector and its presentation, according to Chief Secretary Dr Somlal Subedi.

The first Cabinet meeting under PM Deuba has decided to set five priorities for its tenure. The government's priorities are amending the constitution, holding second phase of local election, provincial elections, federal elections, give momentum to post-earthquake reconstruction and provide relief to the people.

Earlier this afternoon, President Bidya Devi Bhandari administered the oath of office and secrecy to Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba amid a function at Sheetal Niwas in Kathmandu.

After taking the oath as new PM, Deuba administered the oath to seven new ministers—three from Nepali Congress, three from CPN (Maoist Centre) and one from Nepal Loktantrik Forum. 

From Nepali Congress, Gopal Man Shrestha has been appointed as the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Education, Gyanendra Bahadur Karki and Farmullah Mansoor have been appointed as Minister for Finance and Minister for Labour and Employment respectively.

Meanwhile, Krishna Bahadur Mahara of CPN (Maoist Centre) has been appointed as Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs.

Similarly, CPN (MC) leader Janardan Sharma has been appointed as Minister for Home Affairs and Prabhu Sah has been appointed as minister without portfolio.
