In his first decision upon assuming office on Wednesday, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs Krishna Bahadur Mahara formed a high-level panel to look into problems facing the Nepali migrant workers.
The panel—whose members are included from Foreign Affairs, Home, Finance, and Labour and Employment ministries—will be looking into the challenges and opportunities in the foreign employment sector and will set short- , medium- and long-term priorities of Nepal, the Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
The task force will prepare plans to address the problems facing the migrant workers, including issues related to salaries, working conditions, legal status, death in the host countries. Such problems are more prevalent in the Gulf countries where around 1.5 million Nepali migrant workers are based.
