The main opposition CPN-UML has made it clear that it will not support the idea of postponing the second phase of local polls further. The main opposition CPN-UML has made it clear that it will not support the idea of postponing the second phase of local polls further.
The polls initially slated for June 14 has already been postponed twice—first for June 23 and put off again for June 28—in a bid to bring the agitating Rastriya Janta Party-Nepal on board the election process. The RJP-N has been demanding amendment in the constitution to increase local levels in the southern plains.
A UML meeting on Tuesday stressed on conducting the elections on June 28.
“Our meeting calls on the general public to be aware of the conspiracy to push elections under any pretext,” the party said in a statement after the meeting. “CPN-UML has strong reservation over any further rescheduling of the elections.”
Objecting to non-political activities conducted across the country under the RJP-N banner, the meeting condemned the acts of vandalism, destruction of public and government properties, assault on government employees and supporters of rival political parties.
The meeting also called on the agitating RJP-N to immediately stop all its protest programmes and participate in the local polls.

NC supporters displeased with nominations
DADELDHURA: The supporters of Nepali Congress in Dadeldhura have protested the party’s decision to nominate “incompetent” persons in the upcoming local level elections. The NC has so far picked its candidates for two municipalities and five village councils, but the party supporters say none of the nominees are cut out for the role. Local leader Biplav Dhami said on Tuesday that the deserving and capable
persons were not nominated, much to the anger of the party supporters. The party will not win with these candidates, he added. Dadeldhura is the home district of Prime Minister and NC President Sher Bahadur Deuba.
