Decision to defer Phase II polls in Province 2 will divide nation: UML
The main opposition CPN-UML has claimed that an agreement reached between the ruling parties and agitating Rastriya Janata Party-Nepal (RJP-N) to postpone the second phase of local level elections in Province 2 would prepare the mindset of division in the country. The main opposition CPN-UML has claimed that an agreement reached between the ruling parties and agitating Rastriya Janata Party-Nepal (RJP-N) to postpone the second phase of local level elections in Province 2 would prepare the mindset of division in the country. The party has dubbed the agreement as a serious crime.
In a statement issued by party’s Secretary and Publicity Department Chief Yogesh Bhattarai, the UML has said that the agreement has not only weakened the national unity but also boosted the morale of those trying to divide the nation.
“The government’s decision to postpone the second phase of local polls in Province 2 has not only prevented the people from exercising their rights to choose their own representatives but also affected the constitution implementation process,” leader Bhattarai said in the statement.
Earlier this afternoon, the ruling parties and the agitating RJP-N had decided to postpone the local level elections in Province 2 for September 18.
Earlier, the second phase of local polls was scheduled for June 28 in 41 districts of Province 1, 2, 5 and 7.
