According to a report released on Thursday while marking the 67th anniversary of the PSC, it received 595,031 applications for 13,047 advertised posts in 2016.
“Among the applicants, 54 percent were females,” said Joint-Secretary Laxmi Bilas Koirala. “Most people applied for the post of non-gazetted first class officers; one in 215 were selected from general category whereas one in 64 were selected under inclusive category,” he added.
The report shows 28 percent of the applicants were Brahmins (Hill) and 7.5 percent were Chhetris. The number of applications from these communities, however, decreased last year, says the report. There was a rise in number of applications from Tharu and Rai communities while a decrease in applicants was seen from Magar, Yadav, Newar, Tamang and Teli communities.
More than 65 percent of applicants were from the 21-30 age group.
“PSC is now conducting written exams in remote districts—Dolpa and Humla—and high population density cities Lahan and Biratnagar to maximise people’s access and participation in the exams,” said PSC Secretary Madhu Prasad Regmi.
