Commencing the relocation of vulnerable settlements to safer places, the NRA on Thursday declared that it has decided not to build any infrastructure in the vulnerable areas starting from the upcoming fiscal year.
According to a statement, the rebuilding authority had identified vulnerable settlements in Rasuwa, Nuwakot, Gorkha, Sindhupalchok, Dolakha, Dhading, Lalipur, Makwanpur, Kavrepalanchok, Ramechhap and Okaldhunga districts. There are some settlements that need relocation also in the least affected districts such as Chitwan, Lamjung, Solukhumbu and Tanahun. The NRA has marked 136 settlements as “vulnerable”, requiring shifting of a total of 2,361 households from there. Almost all the settlements have less than a hundred houses.
In some settlements, almost all the families must be shifted. The process of moving them to safer locations has already begun in some areas.
The decision was made on Thursday after discussion with the representatives from the water supply, geology, soil conservation, disaster management, road, and irrigation departments.
