Chairmen of the Rastriya Janata Party- Nepal (RJP-N) have dubbed the second phase of local level election slated to be held on June 28 is only a drama.
The RJP-N, which has opposed the June 28 local elections, has been protesting in the Tarai region.
At a press meet organised in Bhairahawa on Sunday, RJP-N chairmen Mahantha Thakur and Rajendra Mahato claimed that there is no meaning of the election going to be held without the participation of all political parties.
“There had been an agreement to hold elections only after addressing the problems of Madhes but the government breached the understanding by unilaterally declaring the elections,” said leader Thakur. “Now we have only two alternatives before us: either to surrender or resort to protests. We will resort to the latter and we have informed the government about this.”
Another Chairman Rajendra Mahato claimed that the election to be held despite their protest by arresting hundreds of our cadres cannot be democratic.
‘Conspiracy to kill RJP-N leaders’
RJP-N Chairmen have claimed that the government has directed the security personnel to use bullets and teargas shells with the intention to kill them.
“Bullets were fired in a conspiratorial manner with the intention to disrupt an assembly by unnecessarily blowing up the debate,” said leader Mahato. “The act of firing teargas and bullets at the dais has raised our suspicion it was a part of the conspiracy to kill us.”
“Shots were fired in Parasi at a protest assembly of RJP-N. But the situation was not that bad. Where is the government trying to push the country by orchestrating such incident?” Thakur questioned. He said that no amount of condemnation would be enough for the incident.
A clash had occurred on Saturday between police personnel and RJP-N cadres during a protest rally of the party in Parasi, the district headquarters of Nawalparasi, when the cadres tried to set fire to CPN-UML flag among other publicity materials. At least five persons were injured when police fired rubber bullets to disperse RJP-N protesters.
