Home Minister Janardan Sharma has said that the government was compelled to announce third phase of local level elections due to political circumstances.
Speaking at the inauguration of Province Level Security Symposium-7 in Dhangadi, Minister Sharma said the government, despite its willingness and demands from Madhes-centric parties, couldn’t hold elections in all provinces at once because of adverse political situation. “It was political compulsion of the government to conduct the local level elections in three phases,” he noted.
Home Minister Sharma said the new constitution has moved into implementation mode with the conduction of local level elections. “The constitution will be fully implemented after the conduction of provincial and federal parliamentary election,” said Sharma.
He stressed on the need for restructuring the administrative bodies in line with the new constitution. He added that the security situation would improve further once the security bodies—Nepal Police, Armed Police Force and Nepal Army—are restructured according to the new constitution.
Chief district officers and security chiefs of all the districts of province 7 marked their presence at the programme. Minister Sharma directed the participants including high level officials at Home Ministry to conduct the elections in an enthusiastic manner by giving top priority to the local level polls.
