A discussion revolving around the current trajectory of short stories in Nepali literature was held at Melamchi, in Sindhupalchowk, on Wednesday.A discussion revolving around the current trajectory of short stories in Nepali literature was held at Melamchi, in Sindhupalchowk, on Wednesday.
The discussion which marked the diamond jubilee of the Nepal Academy was organised jointly by Short-story Society Nepal and Nepal Academy. The event held with an aim to reinforce the importance of short stories in Nepali literature saw discussion about the evolution of short stories, its present form and the challenges that lie ahead for the genre.
Speaking at the event, Matrika Poudel of the Academy, said, “The craze for short stories has increased among young readers nowadays. This interest for short stories has helped it establish itself in mainstream Nepali literature.”
“However,” he added, “there is still much left to do to elevate this genre. There are many opportunities as well as challenges in the future for this genre.”
The event, chaired by Om Shrestha ‘Rodhan’, chairperson of Short-story Society Nepal, saw participation of literary figures such as Sneh Sayami, Gopal Aask, Suman Survav, Dipak Rai, and Bijay Nepal, among others.
