Senior CPN-UML leader Madhav Kumar Nepal has said the major three parties and Rastriya Janata Party-Nepal (RJP-N) have agreed to amend the constitution after the completion of all three phases of local level election.
Speaking at a press meet in Biratnagar on Sunday, the CPN-UML leader said the ruling Nepali Congress and CPN (Maoist Center) postponed the election date in province 2 under the pretext of addressing the demand of RJP-N. He claimed that the agitating RJP-N had not put forth such demands.
"PM Sher Bahadur Deuba was aware of the falling status of his party in the number 2 province and its imminent loss in election. The failure of CPN (Maoist Center) to achieve anything important also made it difficult for them to ask people to vote for their party," said Nepal. "So the election date was pushed further back." He said the RJP-N had not demanded to defer election in the province.
Nepal claimed the agitating RJP-N would take part in election without amending the constitution. "Every party should shoulder responsibility and convince RJP-N to take part in election. Claiming to be a democratic party but setting various pre-conditions for election is undemocratic," said Nepal.
The former PM also lashed out at Election Commission for not being able to play effective role during the election. "EC looks helpless in its role," he said.
