The work plan was drafted by Ministry of Home Affairs in coordination with different ministries, departments, sectors working in water-induced disaster mitigation and security agencies, said Shankar Hari Acharya, chief of the National Emergency Operation Centre.
“This work plan will be a useful document for improving our responses to disaster. It will provide guidelines on how we can quickly and efficiently react in times of disasters,”said Acharya.
The work plan also proposes raising awareness on preparedness and disaster risk reduction as well as designing response measures in vulnerable communities.
Another contingency work plan has also been developed by the Humanitarian Country Team (HCT) which consists of several UN and other humanitarian agencies. The work plan will mainly work in the sector of relief distribution in disaster-affected areas.
Acharya said the HCT’s work plan will be based in 36 districts, including the 14 earthquake-hit districts. (PR)
