In what would remind a scene from a gothic horror movie, a 29-year-old man from Kohalpur-4, Banke, surrendered before the Area Police Office in Kahalpur, on Monday with the decapitated head of his wife.In what would remind a scene from a gothic horror movie, a 29-year-old man from Kohalpur-4, Banke, surrendered before the Area Police Office in Kahalpur, on Monday with the decapitated head of his wife.
Mohammad Aftab Bedawa of Belanpur reached the police post at around 10:30 pm yesterday and surrendered himself saying that he beheaded his wife Khulsan.
He came to the police post on a bicycle with the decapitated head wrapped in clothes.
As per Bedawa\'s statement, a police team headed by Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Suresh Prasad Kafle reached the incident site and recovered the body of his wife. Their four-month-old child was found crying in incident site.
The 26-year-old victim was the first wife of the perpetrator who married another wife four years ago.
"We immediately reached the site and rescued the child. The perpetrator killed the woman in cold blood," said DSP Kafle, adding that the suspect came to the police post soon after the crime.
Police suspect that Khulsan was murdered at around 10 pm.
During the police interrogation, Bedawa said that he stabbed his wife’s breast thrice with a knife before slitting her throat.
Bedawa ekes out his living as a mason. He married Khulsan 13 years ago who gave birth to six children. The investigation officers quoted the villagers as saying that the couple often had disputes.
Following the request of the relatives and neighbours, Bedawa and his wife Khulsan set off for a mosque in Baharaich, the bordering town of India, for religious swearing of not fighting anymore.
However, they returned home as they were late to catch the vehicle for Bahraich in Rupaidiha.
It is suspected that a minor dispute on the way back from the mosque could have led to the crime.
The incident site is about 2 km away from their house.
Police have arrested Bedawa and initiated investigation.
