Docs’ associations press Universal to admit listed grads

The doctors’ associations have also warned of intensifying protest if their demands are not addressed.
They have asked the government to start the process to delist the college as a Tribhuvan University medical school following the directive issued by the Cabinet on July 6. The government has warned of disaffiliating medical colleges if they do not follow the enrolment standards.
Universal is now the only college to reject medical students for MD/MS programmes based on the merit list published by the TU Institute of Medicine.
Issuing a statement on Friday, the doctors’ associations said the Universal College has been charging exorbitant sums from MD/MS students.
The National Medical College, Birgunj, too had denied admissions but it admitted the listed students on Friday, under pressure from the District Administration Office.
The Doctors Society of Nepal, Government Doctors’ Association, National Doctors’ Association, Resident Association of Nepal, National Resident Association, Junior Resident Welfare Society, Nepal Medical Students Society, Doctors for Change, Save Medical Fraternity and Society for Dr KC issued the joint statement.
