SSFN, Naya Shakti demand prompt formation of constituency delimitation commission

- Post Report, Kathmandu

Jul 16, 2017-Sanghiya Samajwadi Forum Nepal (SSFN) and Naya Shakti have demanded prompt formation of Electoral Constituency Delimitation Commission and begin works to determine electoral constituencies for provincial and federal elections.

Issuing a joint press statement on Sunday, SSFN Chair Upendra Yadav and Naya Shakti coordinator Baburam Bhattarai said that the intention of current political dialogues looks like holding federal election in old structure in 240 constituencies. The elections held in old structure would adversely affect the federal republic status of the country, the statement said.

The statement has called on the government to hold dialogues with concerned stakeholders to resolve the issue of constitution amendment. "The environment conducive for upcoming elections will be formed only after the constitution amendment proposal tabled at the Parliament is endorsed with necessary revision," the statement read, adding, "Otherwise the issue is likely to induce serious political crisis."
