Seven houses were buried in a Wednesday morning landslide at Pundrung settlement of Gangajamuna Rural Municipality-2 in Dhading district.
No casualties were reported but as many as 17 families are said to be displaced due to landslide threat in the settlement.
Phai Singh Tamang, the ward chairman of Gangajamuna Rural Municipality-2, said the landslide buried seven houses and cattle sheds with animals tethered inside.
Continuous rains in the area since Sunday night had triggered the landslide on the same place where a massive landslide had occurred after the Gorkha Earthquake of April 2015.
“The concerned government authorities have not reached the settlement to offer relief to the displaced families, many of whom fled their homes with just the clothes on their backs,” Tamang said.
Chief District Officer Mahesh Acharya said relief materials could not be sent immediately owing to the obstructions of roads caused by landslides.
“We are arranging for a helicopter to transport relief and other emergency supplies,” he said.
Meanwhile, the landslide-displaced families are taking shelter at a local school building.
Eight settlements in northern Dhading are said to be at high risk of landslides and the local administration is planning to resettle them elsewhere by partnering with the National Reconstruction Authority.
