SC summons corruption files against Sharma from Special Court

Responding to a habeas corpus writ filed by Sharma’s wife Kalpana Upreti Sharma, a full bench of Justices Deepak Raj Joshi, Deepak Kumar Karki, Kedar Prasad Chalise, Shardha Prasad Ghimire and Anil Kumar Sinha issued the order this afternoon.
Sharma's wife, on July 11, had filed a habeas corpus petition at the SC demanding release of her husband claiming detention of her husband was illegal.
The Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) has sought a fine of Rs 10.96 billion from three officials of the Tax Settlement Commission (TSC) on charge of misappropriating billions of rupees by settling taxes in a dubious way.
The anti-graft constitutional body had filed a charge-sheet against TSC Chairman Lumdhoj Mahat, member Umesh Dhakal, and suspended member secretary and Director General of IRD Chudamani Sharma.
A team deployed from the CIAA on June 3 had arrested Sharma on charge of misappropriating revenue and settling taxes. Mahat and Dhakal are still at large.
