Factionalism is a curse to NC: Sujata Koirala

The 60:40 power-sharing ratio adopted by the senior leaders is the by-product of factionalism that is entrenched in the party, Koirala said at an interaction in the Capital on Monday.
“There are many leaders who have made a huge contribution to the party, who are honest and dedicated, and such leaders should be encouraged and given the chance to prove themselves both inside the party and the government,” she said.
Koirala also appealed the party’s President and Prime Minister Sher Bahadur to stop promoting only those leaders who are close to him and his faction.
She also called for the need of encouraging women leaders by giving them important roles.
Uma Regmi, president of Nepal Women’s Association, the NC’s sister organisation, demanded for a 33 percent women representation in the Cabinet, as mentioned in the constitution.
“Although the constitution has clearly mentioned about women representation, there were no remarkable representation of women in the previous two governments led by KP Sharma Oli and Pushpa Kamal Dahal. Similar is the case of the current government, led by Congress President and Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba,” she said. “We have personally requested the prime minister to ensure 33 percent women in his Cabinet.”
