NHRC concerned about problems faced by consumers

At a programme on the ‘role of stakeholders in the protection of consumers’ human rights’ organised in the Capital on Thursday, NHRC Chairman Anup Raj Sharma recalled that the directive on protection of consumers’ rights was issued and said the consumers have not been able to get justice.
Saying that it is the responsibility of the government to implement the fundamental rights ensured by the constitution, Sharma said the consumers themselves have to be aware for the protection of consumers’ rights.
At the programme, Secretary at Ministry of Education, Shanta Bahadur Shrestha conceded the fact that the consumers have been forced to face problems in education and health, among other sectors, due to the failure to bring the private sector under rule and that the government should become serious about it.
Likewise, the NHRC has drawn the government’s attention towards taking effective steps to address the demands of agitating Dr Govinda KC, who has been staging his 11th hunger strike demanding reforms in medication education sector.
