Nepali Congress leader and former Health Minister Gagan Thapa has demanded the government immediately form a talks team to address the demands of fasting Dr Govinda KC.Nepali Congress leader and former Health Minister Gagan Thapa has demanded the government immediately form a talks team to address the demands of fasting Dr Govinda KC.
Addressing the 128th anniversary of Bir Hospital in Kathmandu on Thursday, the former Health Minister said, "Talks team has been formed after KC's fast reached 13 or 14 days. This should end and a team should be formed immediately."
Thapa said that it's a matter of shame for all that Dr KC has been forced to stage hunger strikes repeatedly. "We reached an agreement with him [KC] but instead of implementing them, we work against that agreement," Thapa said.
Thapa said he had, during his tenure as Health Ministers, stopped the Cabinet from taking decisions against agreement reached with Dr KC. He also maintained that all of KC's demands can be addressed immediately.
Meanwhile, Health Minister Giriraj Mani Pokharel, during the programme, said that he will raise the issue of Dr KC’s hunger strike in the Cabinet meeting scheduled for today.
Minister Pokharel said that the issues raised by Dr KC should be dealt jointly by Education Ministry and Health Ministry though the issue is more relevant to the former.
Dr Govinda KC has been fasting for the past four days at Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital demanding reforms in the country's medical sector.
