CIAA confiscates papers from BPKIHS over irregularities on equipment purchase
Jul 28, 2017-The Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) has confiscated documents related to the purchase of Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) machine from the BP Koirala Institute of Health Sciences on Thursday.
Chief at the Itahari chapter of the CIAA Prem Prasad Bhattarai said that they seized the documents from the purchase department of the institution after seeking the permission of BPKIHS Vice Chancellor Raj Kumar Rauniyar following complaint that there had been financial irregularities while purchasing the MRI machine.
As per the complaint, the MRI 1.5 Tesla machine costs Rs 1.2 million, however, the documents show that the medical machine cost Rs 1.8 million while purchasing.
“We have taken the papers related to the purchase from the BPKIHS to investigate the matter after we received a complaint regarding misappropriation during procurement of the MRI machine,” said Bhattarai.
The BPKIHS had moved ahead with the process to purchase new MRI machine to replace it with the old one.
Likewise, Bhattarai further informed that the CIAA confiscated other files regarding the tender calling for the purchase of medical equipments from Cardiology and Oncology Departments of the institution as well.
Meanwhile, BPKIHS Vice Chancellor Rauniyar said that the CIAA officials were taking action over the two line complaints registered by persons who want to defame the institution.
“I have handed over all documents sought by the CIAA,” said Vice Chancellor Rauniyar, adding that there cannot be any anomalies as the purchase should first be approved by Executive Committee, Procurement Committee, Evaluation Committee, and Technical Committee.
Earlier, the CIAA had impounded documents related to the construction of MCH building for investigation.
