Suspension bridge sustains damage even before inauguration

- Post Report, JHAPA

Jul 28, 2017-A suspension bridge built over the Chanju Khola in Chalachuli-2, Ilam has been damaged even before it came into operation.

Locals in the area have expressed their anger after the 204 metre bridge that was completed some two months ago with a budget of Rs 7 million from Suspension Bridge Division in Kathmandu has sustained damage even before the official inauguration.

The bridge’s pillar on the eastern side sustained damage due to a recent flood in the Chanju Khola. The pillar was constructed only from three feet below the surface which caused it to cave in during the flood.

For the locals of Chalachuli, where there are over a dozen small and big streams, the bridge was a boon as they had to undergo perilous journey to cross to the other side.
