Aug 1, 2017-
Authorities have destroyed the cancelled ballots of local level elections at ward 19 of Bharatpur Metropolis on Tuesday after the new date for re-election was finalised.
The ballots were burnt this afternoon at a covered hall in Bharatpur amid tight security.
An all-party meeting held at the office of chief election officer in Bharatpur decided to conduct re-election in the ward on August 4.
The vote counting of the first phase of local polls held in the ward on May 14 was stalled after 90 ballot papers were found torn allegedly by CPN (Maoist Centre) cadres on May 28.
The Supreme Court on Sunday ordered re-election in the ward upholding the Election Commission’s earlier decision.
The EC later instructed chief election officer to finalise the date and destroy all the ballots paper of ward 19.
