The National Trust for Nature Conversation (NTNC) has installed close-circuit cameras along the Tiakuli biological corridor in Chitwan in a bid to conserve wildlife and monitor their movement.
Chiranjibi Pokharel, chief of NTNC, Sauraha, said using camera-trapping method they plan to monitor the movement of wildlife as well as human activities along the biological corridor.
Thirty-two cameras have been installed at 16 locations between Bharatpur Metropolitan City and Ratnanagar Municipality, Pokharel added.
To protect wildlife, authorities have also banned motorists from stopping in the area. A security post has also been established to enforce the “no-stop” regulation.
Besides, the staff at Chitwan National Park (CNP), District Forest Office and the representatives of local forest users’ groups will also assist in monitoring.
Pokharel said their main objective was to get an insight about wildlife behaviour and movement along the area and the effects of human and traffic movement on animals.
Nurendra Aryal, information officer at the CNP, claimed that the study was first of its kind in the country.
