SC scarps writ against govt decision to increase local units in Province-2

A division bench of Chief Justice Gopal Parajuli and Judge Purushottam Bhandari scrapped a writ petition filed against Pushpa Kamal Dahal-led government that had decided to increase the local units in Province-2, said SC spokesperson Mahendra Upadhyay.
The writ was filed by advocates Dhan Bahadur Shrestha and Krishna Chand Jha.
The Cabinet on May 22 had decided to increase the number of local units in 12 districts along the plains and promote Birgunj and Biratnagar as metropolis.
The SC, on May 26, had issued an interim order staying the increment of local level units.
Thursday’s SC verdict has opened the door for increasing the number of local level entities in Province 2.
